WOLVES UPON THE COAST: REVIEW AND RETROSPECTIVE

I played Wolves Upon the Coast recently. Here's my review: I enjoyed it. Review over, h ere's some monsters.  djinn djinn djinn djinn HD 5† AC AS CHAIN DAMAGE 1D6+2 At will, may take on a form of dust or smoke. In this form, it cannot attack or be attacked. Knows three random Spells, which it may cast 1/day. Captured and bargained with, it may teach these Spells, or use them to enact a single service. A spiraling motion; disturbances in the water, the dust, the clouds.  Footprints in the wilderness, coming from nowhere and leaving just the same.  For them, thought and action are indistinguishable. To think something is to do it. To promise something is to have already done it. Many a wise man has bound them to his service, setting them to impossible works. Never forget that they were here first. dwarves dwarves  dwarves dwarves HD 1 AC AS ARMOR DAMAGE AS WEAPON Treat damage from Heavy weapons as if they were Light. A man's work may outlive him. Indeed, it may outgrow...

ALLUVIUM (A Lanthanide Horizon Hexcrawl)

Image
In the choking vacuum of the Machine Space, there are islands: sealed pockets of material in the mechanism of  the Structure , waiting to be cracked open and stripped bare by anyone with the tools to do it. Most are more dangerous than what's outside of them, filled with crushing mechanisms and hostile machines- they were not made for you, you rat chewing on the wires. It should be no surprise what happens to you. Yet, rare though they are, there are habitable places to be found.  The only trouble is finding them first. The Basin  is inside of a hollow sphere, with gravity emanating outwards from the center at a level roughly equal to earth's. Two massive steel obelisks thrust up from the ground and meet in the center to hold up the "sun" with their points. The "sun" is an array of impossibly bright spotlights which illuminate the entire space, with "night" only coming from a thick cloud layer which covers half of the spotlight array at any given t...

BEATS A STEADY JOB (Invisible Hands Classes-as-Items)

Image
It's not what you know. Matter of fact, it's not even who you know. It's what you have . Everything in the world exists in relation to money. You especially. You don't really level up in Invisible Hands , at least not in the traditional way. Your personal power is wholly in relation to what is bought and sold- what you own, or what owns you. I've already defaced and devalued this setting once before, so why not do it again? So here's some Classes-as-Items. You may note a split between a monetary and XP price; these items, when bought, also require an investment of experience points to be used .  When found in the field, the dollar price is also the value for which these items can be sold.  You've made me an offer that I can refuse 'Cause either way I get screwed Counter proposal: I go home and jerk off I feel like it's worth noting that, at least for these items, you have to sell them off to get XP from their value. If you ever sell these items off,...

HERE IS NO WATER BUT ONLY ROCK (Invisible Hands: Texas)

Image
For  Invisible Hands . Texas is burning.  Dust Bowl, Alexandre Hogue When it all went wrong, it went very wrong here. All the violence and fear and hatred that could accumulate in that largest of states went off like a loaded gun, along with all of the actual  loaded guns that were just sitting around.  The earth shattered, bleeding black from open stone veins, and what was once dead was made living again; a grand parade of dead men and dinosaurs, all dripping with petroleum. The Crude Sea , dark and thick and reeking, parts the state into islands, the earth's memory of the interior sea that once cut the nation in half. Lift your eyes over the horizon, if you're able- s moke columns rise in every direction, pillars holding up a white-hot sky where the Lone Star blazes big and bright, a cruel sun which permits no nightfall. When the weather isn't bad, it's worse. When it's not hot, it's pouring down sheets of rain and pitching hailstones the size of baseballs to ...
